About the Event
Do you have a rising 9th grader who is eager to get started in high school, but is a bit uncertain about what to expect? In this informative presentation, Access College America will provide tips and tricks on how to start high school productively and strategically. College readiness and planning begin in the first year of high school, and our consultants will break down the most important tasks for each year while instilling confidence in students and parents for this exciting period of growth. We will cover topics such as course selection and planning, standardized testing, study habits, self-advocacy, and extracurricular selection.
*This workshop is intended for students to attend with their parents.

Bonnie is a globally certified Career Development Facilitator who holds a Masters in Education and English. She has worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, and has a passion for helping students find careers that they love and the educational paths to get them there. She is the Managing Director of Advising for Access College America, a national provider for guidance with college planning based in Austin, Texas.
Shayla Rodriguez-Bell, M.A.

Shayla has been a Professional School Counselor for 23 years, working at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. The past 16 years have been spent working with high school students, supporting their academic goals and social emotional needs. She understands the value and benefits of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Dual Credit and has a heart for International students.
With a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University, her focus has always been about helping and serving others. She is passionate about getting to know her scholars and their family units while supporting their goals and objectives. She likes to understand their “why” and encourages them to be confident in their choices.
