Let's get started!

Understanding Cornell's Competitive Nature

Cornell University is indeed a competitive institution. The university is particularly well-known for its programs in Computer and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, and Chemical Engineering, attracting top-tier students from around the globe each year.

To truly stand out, your application needs to present more than excellent grades. Cornell takes a comprehensive approach to admissions, evaluating academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, personal attributes, and passion for your chosen field. Elements such as personal essays, recommendation letters, and interviews offer opportunities to showcase your unique experiences and potential for success at Cornell.

Cornell has not released their official admissions stats for the Class of 2027. However, we do know that there were approximately 68,000 applications submitted for a place in the 2023-24 freshman class and they accepted just 4,994. This means that the Cornell acceptance rate was 7% in 2023.

Historical Cornell University acceptance rates are as follows:

  • Class of 2026: 7%

  • 2025: 9%

  • 2024: 11%

Cornell Early Decision Acceptance Rate

Cornell has not yet released their ED acceptance data from the 2022-23 admissions cycle. We do know that they accepted 1,670 ED applicants, but the total number of ED applicants is not known.

There were 9,555 early decision applicants to the Class of 2026; 1,831 were accepted. This works out to a 19% acceptance rate. This was a lower rate of success than the 21% figure encountered by the Class of 2025.

What Does Studying at Cornell Cost?

For the 2021-2022 academic year, the tuition for Cornell University was $59,316 for both in-state and out-of-state students. The total cost of attendance, which includes tuition, housing, meals, books, supplies, and personal expenses, stood at approximately $73,286.
